The Dale Jr. Download Guest Spotlight: Ned Yost

By Bobby Markos

It’s not often you can gain insight into what it takes to win a World Series and a NASCAR Cup Championship in the same conversation. But on this week’s episode of The Dale Jr. Download, that is exactly what listeners are in store for as Dale Jr. and co-host Mike Davis welcome longtime MLB player, coach, and manager Ned Yost to the Bojangles Studio.

In his storied career that spanned over 40 years, Ned took eight trips to the World Series and won the championship twice, once as a coach with the Atlanta Braves in 1995 and as a manager of the Kansas City Royals in 2015.

After retiring from playing in 1985, Ned received a phone call that would change his life forever inviting him to help coach upcoming pitching prospects for the Atlanta Braves. During his time with the Braves organization, he met Dale Earnhardt Sr., and the two bonded over their love of hunting and the outdoors. In the years that followed, Ned was a confidant of Dale Sr. and shared many experiences with him. During the MLB labor strike of 1994, Dale Sr. invited Ned to be a part of his Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Cup team and help aid their efforts to win a seventh championship. His time with the team was invaluable, and he would use the knowledge he gained to prosper as an MLB team manager years later.

Download listeners should expect to see a new side of the larger-than-life figure that was Dale Earnhardt Sr., while gaining an understanding into the inner workings of major league baseball.
